Nitrogen-use efficiency of organic and conventional arable and dairy farming systems in Germany

چکیده

Abstract Optimising nitrogen (N) management improves soil fertility and reduces negative environmental impacts. Mineral N fertilizers are of key importance in intensive conventional farming (CF). In contrast, organic (OF) is highly dependent on closed nutrient cycles, biological fixation crop rotations. However, both systems need to minimise balances maximise nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE). NUE production was evaluated three regions Germany by analysing input, output balance 30 pairs one OF CF farm each from the network pilot farms for period 2009–2011; indicators were calculated using system REPRO. had higher input all pairs. 90% comparisons, than OF, 7% it same 3% lower. 60% 37% lower only 3%. The 91% (arable farms: 83%; mixed/dairy 95%) 79% 77%; dairy 80%). OF. yearly average four times (59 kg ha ?1 a ) (15 ). results show huge individual variability within CF. Organic lowest highest NUE. A further expansion area can help reduce high increase production.

Evaluation of Yield, Nitrogen Use Efficiency and Radiation Use Efficiency of Wild Majoram in Response to Organic and Chemical Fertilizers

In order to investigate the effect of urea and Azocompost on economic yield, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and radiation use efficiency (RUE) of wild majoram, a factorial experiment was conducted based on randomized complete block design with three replications at Yazd and Mashhad, Iran, during 2012-2013 growing season. Four urea levels and four Azocompost levels (to provide 0, 40, 80 and 120 k...

Organic versus conventional arable farming systems: Functional grouping helps understand staphylinid response

The response of different feeding groups of staphylinid beetles to organic management, distance to perennial boundary and landscape context was studied in 42 paired organic and conventional winter wheat fields. Management effects were found to strongly depend on feeding group. While the activity-density of predators was higher in the conventional fields, both activity-density and species richne...

Nitrogen leaching from conventional versus organic farming systems — a systems modelling approach

The level of nitrogen leaching from organic compared to conventional farming was evaluated by using a systems modelling approach. Two different methods were used for estimating and evaluating nitrate leaching. A simple function was used in which nitrate leaching is dependent on percolation, soil clay content, average nitrogen input and crop sequence. A nitrogen balance model was used to estimat...
